The production of oil in Sudan started in the oil fields of Abijabra and Sharif, followed by the production of oil from the fields of Edareel and Higleeg with a total of 471629 barrels and about 3 million barrels from the Abijabra fields.

The current oil production of Sudan is about 122 thousand barrels daily of which 55 thousand barrels is the state share.

The confirmed oil reserves in Sudan are 6.8 billion barrels and this puts Sudan at number 20 in the world for oil reserves while the confirmed reserves of natural gas are one Billion meters cube.

Sudan owns pipelines for the transportation of crude oil which extends from the oil fields in the country of South Sudan to the export port in Portsudan and through which the Oil from the country of South Sudan gets exported. Sudan also owns a large petroleum refinery in Elgailey, north of Khartoum.
